Not exactly your prompt but this happened to me at 29, I was a mid level. I met my ideal partner and now husband shortly after the breakup. I said yes to every social gathering and ended up meeting my now-husband while hanging out with friends from work. By that point in my life I knew exactly what I wanted in a partner and I think this made it easier to look through the BS and meet someone on my wavelength. I was upfront on my first date about my work commitments and that helped set expectations, too. It has happened for me, for others and it will happen for you!
Oh, I also went on a bunch of Hinge dates right after my breakup for practice. That also helped me get back into the swing of dating, and meet lots of people who were NOT right for me lol.
I broke up with my longtime boyfriend right before I graduated law school. He was cheating on me and gaslighting me for years but I held on thinking he was my last chance to have kids and be “on track” with my life. I was 28 when we broke up. It seems so young in retrospect but at the time I was convinced my life was over and I’d never have kids (note: I am also incredibly overdramatic 😂). I thought I’d be so busy with my big law job starting in the fall that I’d never meet anyone.
I was single for about a year and a half and met my now husband on Hinge when I was 30. I was a second year associate when we met, working insane hours and swiping at my desk during the lulls 😂 I went on tons of dates during that time and figured out what I really wanted out of a relationship. I also became comfortable with the idea of never meeting my person at all. While I would be sad if that happened, I grew to understand that it would be better than the misery I felt with my ex.
I am now in my mid thirties, married and pregnant with our first child. It is absolutely possible to meet your person working in big law. I am now in house now, but the first two years of our relationship I was a big law associate. There are people out there who will understand and respect the crazy hours we work! Online dating gets a bad rep but I found it helpful because I could talk to people and set up dates while at the office. I had to slog through some bad dates but in the end it was worth it.
Sending you such good vibes in this new phase of your life. You are already in such a better place than if you stayed with someone who is not right for you 💕
I’m 36, recently married. I will say to treat finding a partner as a matter at work. If you want kids time isn’t infinite (you have plenty of time! just not unlimited), and it is SO easy to delay things. New relationships take a lot of effort and I feel like traditional business roles with a company are reaching the seniority where they have more flexibility with their time, whereas as a lawyer you maybe are reaching the most responsibility, so for me, it created an imbalance in availability and I had to be super conscientious to make sure my spouse felt prioritized.
Anecdotally. I am SO glad I met my husband in our 30s. We both knew exactly what we wanted and have very high standards for each other. So many people implied that the older you are, the more likely you are to settle, but I’ve found that not to be the case. Maybe somewhat uncharitably, but a lot of my friends that met their partner early are finding out just now that some major character issues aren’t just youthful behavior and they’d hoped their partner would “grow out of it”. Also, my husband is divorced, which is really common in the mid/late 30s dating pool, and something I didn’t see for myself. But I asked a ton of questions (of him), and his friends/family volunteered their perspective (sadly he was a victim of emotional abuse and had really WEIRD behaviors from it), so it helps to have a clear framework of what you’re open to engage on. He’s the absolute best though. Would have waited 35 years for him on purpose if I would have known I’d get someone so thoroughly wonderful.

Successfully date as a mid level/senior? It’s important to me to find someone emotionally mature and with aligned values and I’ve been out of the dating pool for quite some time

I don’t have a success story (yet) but I did break up with my boyfriend of 2 years right before turning 30. I knew if I stayed with him I’d be unhappy. I’m freezing my eggs now so there’s less pressure to find someone. But just wanted to comment so you know you aren’t the only one and you should be proud of yourself for doing what’s right for you. 🫶🏻
