Newbie to investing and never invested in a company that went through a reverse stock split.
In theory, I understand the market value should increase but I’m not seeing this reflected in the price and naturally my book value/ share is very disappointing.

What kind of deals do you have? Lender side/ borrower side, acquisition, DIP, real estate etc etc? Practical law is the best resource to start with. LSTA guide is great but more complex, to appreciate it fully you need to have some basic background.

There is a great treatise on commercial lending.
Get the workbook "essentials of accounting" or a used copy of Stickney/Weil accounting book to have a very basic understanding of accounting.
Consider taking a PLI course.
And if you realize this area is not your passion, find an area of law that is!

If you’re looking for a great contemporary read, the Caesars Palace Coup about the leveraged buyout and subsequent bankruptcy of Caesar’s is incredible. Takes you through the life cycle of finance starting from the LBO, amending the various finance documents as the business evolved/struggled, and the contentious chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Corporate Finance Hornbook by J. Haas. When I switch from an M&A practice to in house and had to cover the finance/treasury team this (plus LSTA) is what I used.
