I worked in one organization where the culture was not great at all. It seemed like everyone was out for themselves and the idea of collaborating in a good way with coworkers just wasn't a realistic possibility. That experience made me very aware that working in what I now think of as a normal office is not always a sure thing. At my present job there can be some drama now and then, but it's not a constant pressure cooker staffed with people who can't be trusted.

A team that doesn't collaborate!! Seems a nightmare, I would be surprised if your team managed to deliver and meet the deadlines and targets.

Oh man, I totally get what you mean. I’ve been through both extremes too. My favorite job by far was at a mid-sized startup where the culture was genuinely collaborative. People celebrated each other’s wins, we had regular “lunch and learn” sessions where anyone could share what they were working on, and asking for help was seen as a strength, not a weakness.
My stress levels were so much lower, I actually looked forward to Mondays, and I felt like my work mattered beyond just hitting metrics.
On the flip side, I once worked at a big corporate place where it was super competitive with leaderboards everywhere, constant comparison, and this unspoken rule that you had to outshine your teammates to get noticed.
I burned out hard. Anxiety through the roof, imposter syndrome in overdrive, and I started dreading even small meetings. Left after a year and felt like a weight lifted off my chest. Now I’m way more intentional about sniffing out culture during interviews.
I straight-up ask about how they handle failures, how feedback flows, and whether people actually take their PTO. Has anyone else started doing that, or am I the only one grilling interviewers now? What about you? what’s one red flag or green flag that’s become a dealbreaker based on your experiences?

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's very helpful. I have never been able to figure out the culture of the team during the interview unless they say something which is directly shows how the do things. Thank you for the tipes for culture questions on the interview :)
For me if they are not responsive during recruitment process it's a big thing.
