Where can I go to have someone explain everything like 401k and taxes and healthcare and other stuff I don’t even know to ask about like I’m 5. I know basically nothing and I’m 27. I give to my 401k and HSA but that’s all I know. I didn’t even start adding to or using the HSA til last year even though I spend like 5k a year in therapy out of pocket. F me. Just don’t want to be blind sided by more SUPER obvious things like that.

What are you doing for a retirement plan as an independent consultant? Solo 401K, SEP IRA, etc.? Any recommendations on where to open an account?

Just got an offer from a growing private company for an FP&A analyst role. 2 YOE at Big 4 plus CPA. They offered 75K plus decent benefits. No 401K currently (told its in the works for 2021) or bonus. Its their final offer. It’s a MCOL. I like the people I’ve met but the only thing holding me back is I feel like I should be making at least 80K plus a bonus. Do y’all think the offer is reasonable? The recruiter said not many companies hire someone directly from an audit background for this role.

If you live in a state that has WEP and GPO and you have your 40 quarters you may want to contact your congressmen. The social security fairness act is being voted on next month. Even if you don’t have your own ss, but are married, this will affect survivor benefits. I am not a fan of asking the government for anything free., I have earned this and should get it. I have met full retirement age and can get the ss that I earned. I have started taking it because it reduces to 1/3 in retirement

I have two offers:
-$165k with a City of New York agency
-$130k plus $5k signing bonus with EY Gps

I feel ho-hum about the government job because I’ve been doing it for so long, and also the option for hybrid work is uncertain. But the salary and benefits are obviously appealing.

Anyone get an MBA at 40? What advice would you give on choosing a program? I already have a masters in my field (healthcare) but I think the business training would open a lot of doors. My main goal would be improved career opportunities, including C-suite, and setting myself up for long term financial security. I also just like this work. I have researched lifetime earnings and an MBA seems to be a good investment but I would have to take out student loans. I’m single and child-free, female.

I am promoting to Band 7 in a few weeks. Will IBM begin to automatically match my 401k? It was not matched while I was in the CbD program, but from what I know, they begin matching as a B7?
