Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase?Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

That's so true! I can recall being in situations where I felt lost and within a week or two all the confusing language was beginning to make sense. There's a thing in a lot of workplaces that people call "tribal knowledge," it's like lore that people learned from experience and passed down. As you work with people you pick up on a lot of that and things that could be confusing just become second nature.

Exactly! And then you move somewhere new and it’s like starting from scratch all over again.
...and then you switch jobs and have to unlearn all of it because the new place has completely different processes and terms for the same things. It never ends 😂

So true. Every workplace has its own dialect and at first you feel like an outsider faking fluency. Then suddenly you are using the acronyms without thinking and laughing at the inside jokes. It sneaks up on you. Makes you realize how adaptable people really are, right?
