Would you describe yourself as a feminist, or do you lean more toward traditional values? I come from a traditional family that doesn’t believe sexism is a real issue. I’ve explained to them many times that working in the professional world has turned me into a feminist because of the sexism I regularly encounter. Still, I’ve noticed that some of my female coworkers, even though they’ve faced similar experiences, seem to hold more traditional views.

I feel like I'm a feminist in a much different sense than what the typical or contemporary feminist is known to be. I think feminism has become associated with being a "girl boss" (thinking that women should all be career-driven, financially independent, etc). I'm a feminist in the sense that I respect women's choices and don't second guess them as buckling under pressure. I deeply a respect a woman's choice to stay home with her children in the same way I deeply respect a woman's choice to return to work. I feel like feminism lost its way by being prescriptive for a certain type of life.

Personally, I wouldn’t describe myself as a feminist and lean more toward traditional values. I think in the professional world, it should come down to the value you bring, not your gender. Everyone deserves respect and opportunity, but I don’t think we need to label everything to recognize hard work and talent.

I think being a feminist has such a bad bubble around it. Wanting equality is being a feminist and it’s definitely not a bad thing. I am a feminist and I 100% agree you should be employed based on your skill not your gender. It should be equal between both genders on your chances depending on skill / ability to do the job

I grew up with a father who made sure us women felt inferior. As awful as that sounds, I learned firsthand that this was just a warped way of thinking... in other words, HIS PROBLEM, not mine. Feeding into that feels like I fuel that monster in their minds, so I'd rather just "let them." So, I keep traditional views but try to surround myself with those who value what really matters.

I can definitely relate. I think my views have evolved over time. Real-world experiences opened my eyes to challenges I hadn’t fully recognized before. I still value some traditional ideas, but I strongly believe in advocating for equality, especially after seeing how real the barriers can be firsthand.

I'm absolutely a feminist, because I believe that all women should have equal rights to do what they want with their lives. That could mean working in a career or staying home with their families, but all women should have the right to choose what's best for them.

depends... I'm moderate, leaning towards traditional in general. BUT, depends on what we are talking about. Do I hate all the men? No. Do I say men are evil? No. BUT. I have been treated unfairly by men who did power plays over me in the workplace. Being a man (especially tall, good-looking) comes with many advantages and imho especially such men tend to be arrogant (not all of them ofc). I believe that women should be paid the same, should be able to be in workforce, to grow their careers etc. I can be assertive when I come across an a-hole. In a private life, I don't want someone to provide for me, but also knowing that I have someone who will support me and future children when I'm off work etc is a good thing. Life isn't equal, as women go through the pregnancy birth etc. so it's just healthy to know there's a partner supporting us in all this

I led a very traditional life until I started my career. Stayed at home, cooked, cleaned, and cared for the kids while my husband went out and worked. I really, really enjoyed this time in my life! For me it’s about the choice to be able to do that and also go get a job when I wanted to. I’ve faced some really sexist comments at work and I’ve also met some amazing people. Feminism to me is the choice and to do what YOU want to do.

Trad values at home and feminist/modern woman identity at work is my magic combo.

OP - ditto! I’ve never cared too much for labels and have always just been moved about what makes sense and what’s right/wrong. But sexism and racism are very real. It works for some people to ignore those realities and they’re even rewarded for it at times.
