Not drinking alcohol in finance puts 1 at a significant disadvantage. Especially with MDs.
Say you apply to an internal role (and your manager knows about it), but you don’t get the job. Do you just let your manager know about it casually, and reiterate your interest in and commitment to the current team? Wouldn’t your manager be a bit wary of your renewed interest in the team now that your internal job application fell through ?
Is the interview process to get into IBD harder or easier than top consulting firms like BCG/McKinsey/Bain? Where do the truly smart people work nowadays?
I’m mid-level in my HR career at my current company and an upcoming Master’s graduate. Studying for my SHRM-CP too. How did you make the transition to that next level? What skills do you need, or is it really just based on YOE (I am the youngest compared to my teammates, many who have 10+ YOE)? I feel like career pathing is not very clear at my company. Each time I ask for guidance on this from my manager, I get told they’ll look into it.... would love some external mentorship and thoughts 🙏🏼
Moving to the Bay Area- where can I get a good value for rent (SF vs Mountain View, Sunnyvale, San Jose, etc)? I will be working near Palo Alto, and will have a car.
Hey Everyone. Applied through the GS jobs portal on 10/5 for the early careers program in SLC, one position in trade and transaction management, the other in client services/sales support. Heard back through the recruiter on 10/8 and just got my HireVue last night (10/13) and completed it today 10/14. Both of the positions are currently saying “Resume Under Review” Any insight to this at all? How long it’s taken to get a super day invite back? How soon after did you get a rejection or offer?
How much value do companies place on HR experience in a specific industry? My thought is that HR is HR wherever you go, and it shouldn’t be difficult to switch industries (e.g. manufacturing to financial services), mid- to late-career. But what has been your experience?
For those of you who spent the time and money to get the PHR or SHRM certifications, do you feel that it actually strengthened your professional capabilities as on HR professional, or did you just do it to fit into the “HR Professional” crowd?
Did the border stuff come up at work today?

What kind of base salary can a senior manager (career level 6) based in NYC expect doing Technology consulting with Salesforce delivery projects? For those outside of Accenture, if you are familiar with our career system, how much would similar “senior managers” make at your consulting firm if they live in NYC or other tier 1 city also doing Salesforce delivery? Thanks.
