😂 Oh yes, been there! When that starts happening more often to me, I take it as a very clear sign that I am nearing burnout and it is time for a break.
Chief
Absolutely, burnout sneaks up fast. Taking a break when that happens is definitely the smartest move.
Oh yeah, this happened SO much for me when I was working as a bar tender in college. Honestly there's no more challenging job than being a bar tender at a busy bar. It's so loud, chaotic, and you have so many things going on at once. It has made retail feel extremely easy ever since
Chief
Wow, bartending sounds like a wild workout for the brain! Makes sense retail feels like a breeze after that.
I have some of those days, when things happen and I'm forced to juggle a few things at once. I'll have these moments where I'll go to do something and I'll suddenly just draw a blank. It really is like the blue screen we'd get years ago when a computer would crash. I've picked up the habit of jotting down notes to myself as I contend with several things at once. It's the only way I can make sure I don't totally forget to handle something.

That blank moment really is like a crash, isn’t it? Love the note-taking hack such a lifesaver.
I get this, and I also get the ol' brain buffer, lol. Like the "spinning beach ball of death" that you get on a Mac. "What was I thinking about? What was I doing? Who am I?" This is me at least daily lol.
Chief
Haha, the spinning beach ball of death perfectly sums up my brain on those days too. Who even are we sometimes?
Windows 95? Fancy. ;) I have Windows 3.1 days. (Although, to be fair, 3.1 was probably more stable than 95 ;) )
It was definitely simpler, before all the "bloat". Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, though.
This is way too familiar of a feeling 😂. It always hits me when I'm busy at work. I'll be humming along just fine, then a coworker or a customer will ask me something and it's like everything comes to a screeching halt. I forget what I'm supposed to be doing and why and just sit there blankly for a few seconds until my break turns back on.
There's an XKCD comic exactly about this. And every time it comes up, my friend (computer programmer) has a story about the time a co-worker kept interrupting him, telling him it was important, even as he told him that stopping the task would not be good.
He finally stopped. The interruption was, of course, not important at all. And he was so off the original task, there was no going back. His supervisor even told him to go ahead and leave early (it was a Friday) because the best thing would be to completely rest and forget it until Monday
Oh yes! 😂 It happens all the times. Sometimes looking for a word for something that you use every time but when you need it, it doesn't just come to your mind.
Chief
Oh yes, that moment when words disappear is the worst. Happens way too often!
They say that the human brain can hold the equivalent of 2.5 petabytes of memory, but with life as crazy as it is that's not enough storage! Sometimes you need to do a reboot, clean out some junk files, and maybe upgrade that floppy disk. That's all to say, take a break!
