So, just to clarify, this is a male student "identifying" as a girl? If so, no, you were not wrong to give him the boys' weight. It isn't an insult to call a boy a boy and to treat him as such. Coaches should never have been put in this position in the first place where we have to decide whether to adhere to the truth or placate the trans activists.
And shame on the parents for letting him play out this fantasy, by the way. An "incident" like this, if you can even call it that, should be a life lesson to him. He's going to have reality thrust in his face over and over for the rest of his life, or until he comes to grips with who he is and drops the charade.

No. If you're a girl and want to tell everybody you're a boy and compete on the boys' team, you play by the boys' rules. If you're a boy and want to play on the girls' team, sorry, you're not a girl. Besides, since when does "caring" mean letting kids do whatever the hell they want? In whose world does that make sense? We're always complaining about how kids don't have boundaries anymore, and yet here we are detonating one of the most obvious and easy to enforce boundaries of all time.
Girl sports are for girls. Boy sports are for boys.
Lately I've seen so many posts on here about LGBTQ+ and political issues that I'm starting to suspect phishing and bots.
Oregon High- do you really not know? This strikes me as such an easy conundrum to solve that it's unlikely that this came from a real person. There's a simple answer which would satisfy all parties. Moreover, it's the by the book answer which I can assure you complies with policy.
Was the student officially competing as male or female? Male, according to your post. Simply tell the volunteer "this student competes in male events". The volunteer is accurately corrected and the student is affirmed.
If I can say this without opinion bias, and without seeing if the student outwardly presents more as male or female, you should be able to resolve this situation without issue.
That doesn't comply. Males should compete w males and females w biological females.
Just for clarity In my division middle School is viewed as little more than intramurals and records are barley kept. At this meet location while the HS students the week before had a full spread of food and indoor bathrooms, we not so much.
Sounds like you did just fine, your response was due to his reaction to you…. he wanted to blame you.
I wonder if you just clarified the weight class for boys his age, if it would have clicked for him?
I’m a pretty blunt person, but not judgmental. I find that kids respond very favorably when given logical information that makes sense. Even 3/4th graders will concede if you can show the facts involved in the adults decision making, believe it or not. I’d definitely have to draw a visual for the little ones lol
Maybe your previous student wouldn’t have been so mad at you directly. I’m sure as he moves along in sports, if he continues he’ll figure out the game has rules and you were simply following them; and in retrospect will realize your kindness.
If the kid identifies as a boy, the boy rules should apply. I think you should have told the kid that you give them the boy weight. Kid can't switch when convenient.
This goes both ways. Locally, there is a male who ids as female. They auditioned for a play as a boy and got a role. They wouldn't have gotten a role as a female because there are many more girls than boys in theater at that age. That irritated me some, too. And I understand gender fluidity, but the optics ofthis are not good.
Just do what your school district attorney tells you to do. You're going to take heat no matter what in this one.
Don't have an attorney. The Athletic direct is the same person and the Principal, and superintendent. There are a total of 10 staff members including custodians and buss drivers...we wear many hats. I asked the Superintendent/Principal/ Athletic director and was told in essence to ignore it and hope it goes away.
