Knowing how to pronounce La Jolla and Milpitas if you are from socal/norcal respectively. Not calling san Francisco SF or San Fran. Also calling CA Cali = you aren't from here.
Sacramento: Sac town, west or east sac. The infamous "hecka or hella" will always stick with me as the lingo in Norcal. Lol
We have a few!
• Slanging ia with a y “yuh” (I.e. cali-forn-yuh)
• Using negatives as positive and Vice versa
• Yeah, No (means definitely not); no, yea (means sure); no, no, cuz yea (Means I agree)
• Dude can be used in any context or in reference to anything (man, woman, child, tree, idea, state of being, feeling, mood, etc.)
• Shut up! (Means tell me more)
• Constantly speaking like we are asking a question
• Staring at people with a puzzled look typically in disapproval and confusion
• Valley Speak (Valley Girl, Clueless)
• “right” sounds like raught
• “caught” sounds like cot
• “time” sounds like Tom
• We all have vocal fry
I could go on forever 🤣
Anyone from CA will never call it “Cali” - dead giveaway!
How do you pronounce TikTok then?
HAHAHAHAH I was trying to figure that out as well.
The 805 central coast. Not L.A, Not the Bay.
I've been caught out in the PNW calling, to them the "I5," "the 5." Fun conversation starter.
"fer sure"
