Accept the offer and sign the paper before letting your boss know. Because your boss may just tell you to leave and if the recruiter doesn’t fulfill their part you are out of a job and this market is not one to play with.
If someone offered you 20k more to do the same job just leave your current job you don’t owe them anything so do not over think and frustrate yourself
The only way you stay ahead in your first 10-15 years of your career is to bounce around. However, longterm that will end up hurting you. If you’ve had 5-7 jobs in your first 15 years you will be paid at the top of the market, but you better pick the right place to end at or be able to perform at the top of your group. If not, you will be the first to get cut and it will be harder to get hired in a down economy. There are a lot of people finding that out currently.
I agree with this.
OP wasn't necessarily underpaid. They were paid how the majority are of people are paid when they stay in one place. Switchimg companies is where the big bucks come from. But it also has downsides.
You will always get a premium to move to another firm. Then you will get equalized to market at your new firm over a year or so.
Recruiters don't make offers, they tell you what you want to hear.
Just tell them you have a friend or some other concerns and need to change job
Yes, ‘burning the bridge’ can sometimes be far more effective than mehw-mehw, strategies that only bring stress, confusion, and wasted effort and finances. Toxic, selfish, and manipulative management or situations don’t need your validation, attention, or approval especially when you are experienced and their actions threaten your peace and remind you that you are worth far more than $20K, your work, or your well-being. Just be careful not to burn everyone on the bridge; sometimes it’s strategic to let 2 children go, while removing the 2 truly harmful adults or home and work wrecker influences burn them together..
When we are kind and considerate, and in a vulnerable situation, we tend to believe that whatever we are given is something to be thankful for.
Yet true effort requires recognizing when generosity and patience are being tested and taken advantage in a vaurnable situation. Your experience, skill, and behavior will ultimately guide you to a better position, title, and environment where your contributions are truly valued. :)
Is this your first job. Just leave to the other place. Say you got another offer that suits your goals. It’s as easy as that.
Take the money and run! Didn’t seem like that great of a bridge if they were screwing you out of money anyway. Nothing to say but goodbye.
