I think older generations just didn’t have the internet. They complained.
🤣 facts
The adults that came before us often had one partner staying at home or worker a lower-stress/hours job so they had someone to take care of all the life stuff we can’t keep up on and someone to bring in the money we need to earn. Feels like that is not possible anymore even with one person having a pretty high income.
You think the pandemic had something to do with it too?
Also I think the previous generation promised us a broken dream - if you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life. Such bs! Our generation refuses to accept things as they are and tries to take ownership of our career in that we don’t want things to just happen to us. Maybe that’s more exhausting bc of the uncertainty?
Yes!!!!!! I wish I could like this twice. I also think we prioritize our mental health more than just “dealing with it”. And yes the uncertainty makes my (our) anxiety even worse.
As for the pandemic- I never thought about it like that honestly. But it could most definitely play a part in it. This new normal is ever changing and uncertain in itself.
Same - I enjoy being an adult but do not enjoy adulting tasks lol (bills, taxes, changing the car headlight, oil, etc…).
I do think phones and technology have changed the game. You never really get to be ‘off’. The previous generations could actually leave work and just be done till the next day. Vacations actually gave you the ability to vacate your mind. Now we’re all just drones tapping away at a screen constantly and there’s no way for the adulting to stop.
What do you mean? Life is hard?
I admit it is whiny….but it really shouldn’t feel this way..
Also I’m not really talking about amount of responsibility I’m more talking about how seemingly difficult these mundane tasks are. . .while still admitting that I’m being whiny 🤣
I think there are a couple of reasons. 1) Going into and while in law school, everyone was told if they got through law school and suffered for three years we would be guaranteed high paying jobs and job security, albeit we would probably hate our jobs and be overworked. Job security seems to be a thing of the past in the legal industry, and wages are pretty stagnant and have been for 10 years and are not keeping up with inflation. 2) The price of tuition at law schools keep increasing. If you are taking out loans to go, it’s really eating into your income and comfort. 3) the perception of attorneys has generally decreased. The job is not as respected or prestigious. 4) As mentioned above, the internet has also just made everyone more aware of discontent in the industry. 5) During the pandemic, most legal professionals lives got easier or more flexible for at least six months. A lot of people realized they did not always have to be in a stuffy office and that they could actually have free time during the week or time for their family because the legal industry just has a lot artificial constructs and supervisors with sticks up their asses who are more interested in control than support and efficiency. With a remote or hybrid work model, you tend to be a able to do what took 60 hours in an office in about 40 with a mix of office and home.
