Any tips on leaving a firm “correctly”? Was about to go “of counsel” with my firm of 6 years, but then another firm whose partners I really respect (and personally like) offered me a partnership position. I predict my current bosses will *flip* (cut off file access immediately, try to beat me to calling my clients, etc.), so how do I set myself up for a successful transition?

Obviously download everything you need. If you’re worried about him trying to beat you to calling clients, check his calendar and look for a window to tell him when he just won’t have the time to go around calling your clients. You can also prepare a merge form to go out as an email to every client, or use a software to pre record voice mails and just deposit them in their voice mail boxes as soon as you tell parter

And sounds like you’ve been practicing long enough for this to not be an issue but if you have a set start date with your next firm make sure that you have enough for expenses if your firm cuts you off right away and you have to skip a pay period at new firm.

I am a sixth-year associate overseeing a second year. They are an exceptionally good associate. I am honestly shocked at the work product I receive and the way they go above and beyond. The issue I have is that they sometimes take awhile to turn things around. For example, I ask for a draft response to the client, and they take three-four days. I know they’re busy, but I would like to address this in a positive way. Any suggestions?

I haven't been able to update the anything regarding the insurance part yet on FIS portal.

Will my mother's treatment be covered under the insurance? If yes, what's the procedure for the same? What are the documents that I need to submit in order to claim the amount?

Can anyone please guide?

I work in a midsize firm and we have the basic subscription to westlaw, which doesn’t include the ability to see filed briefs, motions, etc without incurring additional costs. So if I’m drafting a summary judgment I could search the service and find a similar one. If this doesn’t exist.. I think I found the next million dollar idea lol

Okay. Possibly a stupid question BUT Imma ask anyway.

Can someone just explain how you plan out how much to bill so you can make sure it’s not a mad scramble at the end of year? I’m moving from a firm where I was lacking in any kind of mentorship. No one ever just sat down and explained the most efficient way to track/measure your hours to confirm that you are on track.

Is there just a secret excel spreadsheet that all lawyers have and I just missed the memo???

HELP.
