After 30 years in the automobile industry doing multiple positions as sales and finance manager I find myself wanting out of the car business but not getting a welcoming in other opportunities. I sense that people realize I am older and maybe they're concerned about my age moving forward. The lack of responses from my applications is really concerning. Can you offer any advice?

Unfortunately, I have faced plenty of age discrimination since I got back into the job market. I wish it wasn't the case, but it's true. It exists. I would encourage you to only go back 15 years on your résumé and remove the graduation dates from your education. You can't stop people from discriminating against you, but you can make it a little bit harder for them to do so.

After 30 years, your experience is gold but age bias is real and sneaky. One move that helped me was rebranding myself around transferable skills instead of job titles. Sell your problem-solving, leadership, and adaptability like fresh assets, not just “car guy.” Also, try jumping into industries that value wisdom, like consulting or training roles. Sometimes you have to outsmart the system, not just outwork it.

Use the term “ Reinventing yourself” . That goes a long way in leveling your experience as an asset to your prospective employer. Worked for me. Good luck!

The age bias in hiring is real and unfair. I am sorry for that, but here’s the thing: you’ve got decades of negotiation, high-stakes decision-making, and customer trust-building under your belt. Start leaning into transferable skills and less into auto-specific language. Have someone help you rework your resume and LinkedIn to tell a broader story.

Ageism is a very real problem in business. Companies always talk a good game of praising someone's experience, but they generally avoid hiring older people. And, of course, they never admit that age is the reason. You can do what you can to avoid talking about age, but it's hard to remove it from the conversation entirely.

Take car sales off your resume and go for straight commission sales jobs. If you can actually sell, I find car guys are waiting for the customers to come to them and somewhat lazy…. Most sales positions are more proactive. You have to hunt the customers down and close the deals. Can you do that? It’s a lot more effort than you are used to…..

After 50 yrs in auto industry plus 3 car lots now I am an apartment leasing agent.
Do the work of 4 people .
More revolving doors. You are so marketable and I love what my experience as a car sales woman has brought. It really is better run than most corporate companies . Credit unions love your experience.

I would be interested in knowing how you connected with the apartment people

I'm holding an offer from MakeMyTrip and another offer from OlaElectric. Ninjacart is willing to make me an offer. But they're saying that they'd discuss the offer only after the other company that I'm interviewing with has come up with an offer first. There's been a delay from HRs of the companies in a similar way. How do I urge them to send me the offer letter without sounding pushy? I had reached out to some of the HRs myself. Would that be too awkward if I accept & back out their offer?

Recently moved to Denver, and may be sticking around for good. Planning on buying in the next year or so, and some of the suburbs off 25 and south of 470 have caught my wive’s eye. Thoughts on Douglas county (or specifically castle pines, Parker)?
We’re a mid-30s couple, with a 4 y/o, so for priorities: schools, (hopeful) resale value, and activities for our daughter and family as a whole. Any advice or alternatives would be appreciated!!

I’ve been getting into a healthier routine and make a meal replacement smoothie every morning. I bought a bunch of palisade peaches from a stand and chopped some up and froze them.

Mixed them up today with some OJ, Fairlife milk, unflavored protein powder, spinach, hemp seeds and chia seeds. Best smoothie yet!

How do PPMDs make sure when you are replacing an incumbent, you don't get handed down a broken system ? What sort of knowledge transfer and contractual framework do you get the client to agree to and how do you negotiate on that? I feel clients are not always honest and hide a lot of landmines which a consulting company can walk into and blamed for it.

What’s an appropriate base salary for a pharma marketing DTC Director for a blockbuster biologic that’s on tv? What are typical bonuses and LTI? We only have 18% bonus and $37k LTI per year (approximately depending on stock price) for directors. Our base salaries are all over the place for directors.
