Performative indeed. These companies never actually cared about DEI; they just weighed the pros and cons and figured it was better to invest in it than deal with negative PR. Now that DEI is suddenly unpopular, they can nix these initiatives without having to worry about any fallout.

I agree. DEI in the workplace was always performative to me and just made it seem like Black people were hired to be tokens, which leads to less respect for our skills in the workplace.
TBH I knew they would roll back DEI because this is what the US has always done. Every promise made to Black Americans have been broken or rolled back. Thus, it was my expectation that DEI would be too. The thing is we have to understand this nation is build on money and money is power. The US needs an underclass to keep the wealthy rich. It is a national pyramid scheme. The sooner we understand this the sooner we'll make different choices in our lives (ie start our businesses, move away from the US, etc.). This country stands on the backs of an underclass. More specifically, us. Without us, it falls.
