Is your mental health, while pregnant, something you’re OK with trading for not taking leave? Lawyers tend to be perfectionists but are you sure you’re weighing the pros and cons here correctly?

I get it, but is that worth your mental health? I respect your worth ethic, but you may need to reprioritize and take the loss when it comes to this specific position. You’re not even working in your desired area—you’d have every reason to move shortly anyway if that didn’t change. I get not wanting to move before you go on leave, but that doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice your well-being to please them, either.
Check your firm’s policies on leave to make sure you won’t mess up mat leave by taking health leave now (for example, my firm stops subsidizing health insurance at the point an associate gets to 6 months of leave within a rolling 12 month period). Check state policies about any prenatal leave you might be eligible for (I’ve only heard of this being a thing in CA but haven’t looked into all states). Could intermittent STD help here? I believe that is easier to get approved and I’ve had friends use it for morning sickness. I plan on using it when we start IVF back up soon.
Not sure this helps, but I generally like my group and was still in survival mode mentally to force myself to go through the motions the last few months of pregnancy. Everything will look different after you have your baby. Not saying you will magically love your group, but I think it could help clarify what you are prioritizing when you look for that next step (and hopefully the market has improved/stabilized by the time your maternity leave ends).

Maybe look into the temporary disability policy and see how it aligns with the maternity leave policy? When I was pregnant, I had some complications, and my stupid firm made me go on mat leave early. i asked about disability leave and they said I did not qualify. The rep from the state who was handling my leave (because in NY it is paid), said I did qualify for disability leave. Anyway, do your research and you May qualify! Don’t just rely on what the firm has to day. FYI, because of these issues, I am a solo now.
