Is it better to be in a generalist in-house role or a specialized role (e.g. focusing only on deals, or a certain regulatory area)? Aside from one’s interest and background (so, assuming that one has no preference between the two and has the skills/experience for each), what are the pros and cons of each of these types of roles? After five years in BigLawI’m deciding between a generalist in-house offer at a large company, and a specialized role at a comparable large company.
