Just did. Been working for 30 years and needed to take a break. Best thing ever
How have you been spending the time and when do you plan to get back in the game?
Took a firm provided sabbatical last year and it was a great oppty to reset boundaries and put things into perspective
To do what? Stupid idea
I did it and loving it
Yeah am plotting something similar… am mid 40s and cannot see myself doing this forever
Doing this right now. Portfolio just keeps compounding massively net of expenses so not stressing finances at all. Not rushing to get back in the game unless there’s a compelling opportunity in my space.
I did a sabbatical last year. Feel it was a great way to spend more time with my loved ones and grateful I was in a position to afford it financially and in terms of career. Happy with the decision I made - feel free to follow up with specific questions.
Mostly enjoyed time with family. Considered starting my own business, but did not have enough guts/motivation/ bug to commit to it. Going back to consulting was a relatively easy return (know it is subject to industry / team, etc)
I’ve done it 3 times. Twice I left a company with nothing lined up. Took 4 months off the first time (22 years ago) and then 7 months off the second time (3 years ago). I also took a LOA of 60 or 90 days (I can’t recall) 5 years ago. All were amazing and I recommend it. You have to do it when you are in a place where you are financially and emotionally secure not knowing what is next or when you might get something. If you decide to do it and set a target for when you want to start working, make sure to back into when you should start to look.
I took a leave but had to convert it to a sabbatical due to health issues and now enjoying the break.
Take a leave of absence initially instead of decoupling. It’s wiser.
This has been lingering in my head for a while!!
In a similar boat
Same. Dont feel motivated anymore
I'm going to add in companies. Perhaps there is a pattern. Like the one you're from if in a similar boat:
Deloitte
I did it and it was awesome. Keep it to a year max to stay relevant.
I plan to do this - have been working for the last 28 years with no more than 1 week between jobs the few times I have switched companies - and have never qualified for a firm-sponsored sabbatical. I am so looking forward to this time and truly opening the aperture of what I might do next - looking forward to being excited and enjoying work again afterwards - it has been a long time.
