"It really is a stressful hurdle to clear, but don't give up! Since it's been exactly 7 years and it sounds like a civil matter from a divorce, federal FCRA laws usually stop background check companies from reporting civil marks after 7 years. Your luck might be about to change as that mark drops off your record."

I am sorry to hear that although it is not just you as there are THOUSANDS of people who are still out of work and many more facing layoffs due to the bad job market, economy, and political climate. The only way a company will find out about the mark is if either you tell them or they run a background check which just like your employment and credit check they go back 10 years. All I can say is to keep applying. I have been unemployed since 1/1/26 and 5.5-6 months last year so Sunday was my last UI check that I could request and until I get FTE I am going to be Shipt Shopping. Have you had anyone look at your resume to see whether it will pass through the AI and ATS that companies use with keywords and phrases? Are you being strategic / systematic in your job search or just spraying and praying? If you get a phone screen or interview are you sending thank you notes and/or following up? When you are talking "decent work" what do you mean? Are you looking for work that you have transferable skills for? These days employers want someone who can do something NOW for them not later (The days of on-the-job training are very far and few between).
