I live in California, so I was able to takeoff the four weeks before using the state disability leave. My son ended up coming a week early so really it was more like three weeks, which was just enough time for me to feel like I was less stressed and kind of had my life together before the baby came lol.
I took a month off before and I’m so glad I did. Pay was covered at 100% under STD. Prior to taking leave, I had been billing 50-60 hrs/week for months. I was mentally and physically exhausted. Talk to your OB and ask for a note if you feel like you can’t perform your job duties. Then work with your HR or STD provider.
So long ago this may not be helpful but congratulations. So happy for you. I waited until I went into labor to maximize my time with my baby. My midsize firm let me work a bit from home in the early 90's so I could rest as needed. So much is unique to you, your body, your support system and your options. Do what is best for you. Again, congratulations!

I took off a month before. And I got to chill, nest, and sleep.
I took two weeks with my first but my second came two weeks early. Would highly recommend taking time off before!
Ask your doc to help you w a note. I would have taken the time if it occurred to me.
