My Philly 🐠, how are you?
I was in the final stages of an interview with Microsoft two weeks ago, in partner marketing. Then the recruiter told me they were putting the hiring process on hold to assess the need for the role. Well, then we heard about Microsoft layoffs last week. Seems like most were in Xbox and Project Alpha but there’s not a lot of information out there. Should I hold out any hope that I’m going to get this job? Any insights on how much these layoffs have impacted the marketing org and/or new hiring?

A tech startup is a great choice for marketing work because of their agility, dynamism and willingness to experiment with new ideas. Startups often use the latest technologies, so prospects are able to get more creative in terms of marketing strategies and tactics.
I prefer large companies because of the organization. The work becomes much easier because there are already specific rules to follow to get results, and since there is no need to position the brand, the pace is much more relaxed.
Startups are more fun. Less creativity constraints and are not afraid of risky and original strategies.
It really depends on what type of marketing work you are looking for. Generally speaking, tech startups have the potential to be more creative and agile in their strategies and able to quickly test and adapt them, while big tech companies may have more resources and established processes that could give access to additional data or established customer relationships.
If you're looking to focus more on digital marketing, such as online ads, content creation, email campaigns and social media management, then a tech startup might be a better fit due to their smaller size and more hands-on approach. If you want to focus more on traditional marketing strategies like TV or print advertising and public relations, then a big tech company may have more resources to help you achieve your goals.
A tech startup may be the better option if you are looking to build a unique brand from scratch, have access to cutting-edge technology, and benefit from the flexibility of a smaller organization. I, personally, prefer that over some big company
I value stability & have low risk tolerance so if you’re like that…big tech over start up
My preference was for tech startups when I was younger. I loved the culture, the influence I could have, and the freedom to be creative. Now that I'd older I much prefer the regular hours and job security of bigger companies.
