That and it’ll be 10,000 degrees this week
I was actually just talking to my husband about this. They are threatening activating sleeper cells in the US. I’m nervous about the NYC office. I really hope leadership addresses this. I don’t want to risk my safety because Mark Read couldn’t do his job and made a decision about RTO on “vibes”
Mark Read is no doubt hiding in his tropical island bunker.
Definitely. Reason #67789 why WFH was better.
Just your paranoia. Iran doesn’t have the capability to fire ballistic missiles that can cross the Atlantic. And it doesn’t have nuclear weapons (if it did, we wouldn’t have bombed them in the first place).
Retaliations are more likely to be directed at Israel or US military bases in the Middle East, or economical retaliations like shutting down the Strait of Hormuz which will spike global oil prices.
@C4 - You don’t have to remind me, I was reminded of it every damn day since because of the color of my skin. But it’s disingenuous comparing the actions of a non-state actor to a whole ass country that is also a signatory to the United Nations and bound to the same laws of war as any other nation.
100%
Yes. I have had this bizarre eerie feeling walking around lately. Not sure if it’s in my head or not but feels like some kind of primal instinct making me really uncomfortable
Yes and no. Iran funds terrorist activity but thats generally relegated to the ME. The regime is also incredibly weak right now, cannot handle Israel alone, and I don’t think they want to attract more U.S. countermeasures.
The flip side is that middle easterners are extremely aggravated with the U.S. and this just adds fuel to the fire. Plus our national security apparatus is led by drooling moron sycophants so our ability to detect and prevent is weakened right now.
End of the day it just takes one or two extremist nutjobs. And this just gave them another way to justify to themselves taking action.
I agree with everything you said except funding being relegated to the ME.
Don’t think for a second that the groups Iran bankrolls doesn’t have or won’t sent operatives here. Funding small scale attacks on US soil is incredibly cheap and the psychological effects it would have would be devastating.
As you alluded to, this idiot in office has fired countless analysts and refocused homeland security on deporting immigrants rather than even maintaining an anti-terror state of readiness. So Iran no doubt sees this as a prime opportunity.
The Iranian regime (like wannabe strongman Trump’s) generally exists on fear, power, and propaganda. Iran obviously being the extreme version of that. If they don’t strike back their hardliners will try to replace the Ayatollah. Their backs are against the wall as far as internal politics go and they won’t allow themselves be seen as backing down.
Cell attacks in the US on civilians are highly probable regardless of US military repercussions
I thought of that. Stay safe New Yawk.
Yes. Blowback. Though it can happen anywhere. Iran itself is more likely to be involved with middle eastern targets, but all it takes is an angry person who’s here to hurt a lot of innocent people.
But like, what can we even do about it at this point? Even half of Trump’s followers are feeling unheard at this point.
I have family in Iran. Can’t speak to lone wolf Americans*, but unless you work in telaviv, the regime isn’t coming for you. They have their hands full.
*I definitely fear this, but that’s kind of just an average Tuesday in Manhattan.
US and Israeli counterterrorism intelligence game is strong. We live in a different world to September 2001. If any country could get an attack past the keeper it won’t be Iran.
