Musk and Ramaswamy shot themselves in the foot by stating they support flooding the country with millions of H1-B visa workers. Their influence is slowly diminishing.
And what do you know, since posting this Vivek has been fired from DOGE.
Musk is a disreputable weirdo, and he's going to learn that posting memes about reducing the size of government is very different than actually doing something. But what I worry about are his incitements of an increasingly unhinged population of people who hate government. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I'm worried about attacks on government workers in the coming year. All this incitement will likely have an effect.
Conservatives have been beating the drum against federal workers for decades because it is politically expedient and has worked out (mostly) fine because there are a lot of dedicated government workers who will put up with it and Republicans haven't been willing to do anything overtly hostile. Underwhelming pay raises and crummy TSP contributions aren't good, but it isn't enough to get all the adults to leave the room.
What Trump and Elon are talking about would light the civil service on fire. Things STILL might go on okay until they hit some major challenge and the only people around to help are know-nothing political hacks. Covid is instructive here. Imagine how people would have perceived the federal response if the CDC had been repurposed into some weird antivaxxer agency in 2017 and there was literally nobody who knew even basic virology on hand to get in front of a camera.
It seems strange to me that Trump would pick a South Asian-American (Ramaswamy) and a foreign-born apartheidist (Musk) to reorganize the federal government's operations. What isn't strange is that all three of these obscenely rich men want to gut the IRS before politicians wise up and realize that there are fewer billionaires who vote than there are regular rank-and-file workers. I can already imagine the pitches to dedicate more law enforcement on investigating welfare fraud and just ignore the white collar fraud committed by billionaires like Trump. If the Democrats in Congress can wage their "war of resistance" for two years, the American voters will take care of "Muskaswamy" in 2026 with a "blue wave" from sea to shining sea.
doesn't bother me at all.
Yes mainly because the average American has no idea how the government works. They don’t understand what the 3 branches of government do nor do they care to educate themselves how much of the federal deficit is actually money going directly to them in the form of social security and medicare. And then there’s farmers with their subsidies that no one talks about the enormous amount of money to DOD contractors that don’t add value because most enrich the company executives and don’t contribute to advancing national security.
This.
Spot on.
I don’t understand how these smart business people think cutting the AR department is a good idea.
I firmly believe Mr Musk seeks interests in specific departments where his selfish ambitions are over the top outrageous. Within this 'efficiency' department, he has practically taking over all sectors in life and seems to be running specific resources which people go to for the helps they need. Are being blocked. For a man who is a public image for humanity, no one should be hindered or delayed in their pursuits to achieve happiness, love, care or supports. His role is to audit the government expenses. To remedy our debts to China. Not impose revenge towards those who does not see eye to eye over his personal endeavors. Who's opinions matter the most, outside Satire influences has curious minds wanting him to let go of his control.
Tax preparation companies have managed to block all previous simplification efforts. I'll start the popcorn.
You are not overreacting. Several eccentric billionaires have decided our government is a board game and the winner either gets a new planet or just Boardwalk & Parkplace and all the Get Out of Jail Cards. But the goal is to be the 1 that proves without any doubt how much you truly are above any law in the world with the right $$$ & power.
The fact that everyone is not reacting, is what I'm struggling 2 comprehend. Does it really have to effect someone DIRECTLY, emphatically, with force, 2 resonate any concern, empathy for others or even see potential disasters about to happen????
Where, with all the preaching about Christian morals, did human decency, civic and public responsibility, empathy go??? Have we always been this narrow-minded, selfish, cruel and entitled? I knew that as a whole Americans were clueless of the rest of the world, but this is so scary.
When our democracy implodes with no1 to gather and harvest food, when the shelves are bare, expensive and without choice & the working class (white males) are working while sick, without healthcare or any protection of safe working environment, and working 65 hrs a week (no overtime, of course) gets let go for a younger white male and now w zero income and no programs for temporary assistance, will they realize that those agencies were established out of a need, a public outcry, 2 HELP citizens & better their quality of life? That the history of business practices of our leaders is a reflection of how they will run the next business? Smh. If only I had bought the Utilities or a railroad when i had the chance....
