You are at a point in life where - no matter what path you choose to explore - you will always be lucky enough to take care of yourself based on this career. Sometimes it’s better to ask “what if I didn’t?” Versus “what if I did?”
Thank you so much. I am getting some hope now .
I’d say the transition is totally doable, especially since you’ve already had a taste of tax work. Your audit background gives you a strong analytical base, and firms value that crossover. If partnership is your goal, shifting now sets the foundation. Focus on deepening your tax expertise and get mentorship in that space. You're not starting from scratch, you’re pivoting with purpose.
This is very encouraging. Thank you 😊
Could you do it? Yes. Will it mean taking a step back in pay and role. Probably.
Might be able to get an offer as an S1 in tax
Thank you 😊
Let’s not
Go audit > in house financials > fp&a
Or
If your heart is set on tax pick a speciality like international or corporate for that $$$ exit opportunity
Salt and partnerships also 🤑 just not great exit opportunities
Try -Intuit- for tax preparation, this is what they are looking for!
……and individual taxation. I loved my job but it was part time only. I kept searching FT and I got hired in audit by big four. I took job thinking to rotate after a year, which never happened.
I am eager to leverage this background and further develop my expertise in tax. Initially, I am okay in a blended role that encompasses both audit and tax functions in a mid size firm ( My thought what if they are hesitant to hire me as S3 or Manager w/o solid tax experience) .
Is this possible ? Could you please advise on the steps I should take to facilitate this transition? Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
People are going to argue with me on this but it’s better to go to a big four become a one trick pony - get really good at international or corporate or partnerships or salt
This idea of being a well rounded tax professional solid early in your career but later you usually get pushed into one specialty
