Hoping to get my PHR in the next year or so. Outside of employer reimbursement, are there other opportunities for this to get funded? I know SHRM Foundation offers scholarships for the CP, but I am looking for PHR specific help. Thank you! :)

If you can get tuition reimbursement for classes at least, Villanova offers a 3 course Masters certificate in HR Management that provides great information and preparation for the PHR. Then you just have to pay for the test itself and you may be able to get tax credit for that expense at least. I’m not aware of any scholarships, but at least those classes might be reimbursable for tuition and allow you to just have to pay for the test itself! Good luck!

Asides from your employer paying for it, there’s not really a lot of options. If the moneys too tight, then I personally would hold off until it isn’t.

Another potential option is to switch jobs and aim for a higher salary or a company that is willing to pay for it.

Check out your local HR associations. They may offer scholarships.

Hello! I have a two part question: 1) is it worth it to obtain an SHRM specialty credential if I don’t have the broader SHRM certification? 2) has anyone gotten the People Analytics or Talent Acquistion credential? I had my PHR back in early 2000, then made a career change to a paramedic (I know, right). I called SHRM and they said I'm eligible to test again even though I only currently have 1.5 yrs of HR.

I purchased the online study guide and it seems that HR has gone in a completely different direction - more operations related than employee relations etc.

Did anyone find this online training to be helpful? I test in July, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks - lauren
