SMDs are the highest ranking MDs. You should be driving sales … not being fed.
In general, you either grew up there and have a network, or you are a Direct admit and you are 100% on your own. If you are highly specialized, you will be asked to clean up projects that are going sideways.
The CALs may be able to get you introduced, but the SMD would be expected to drive the origination effort and deal to closure.
And how about the SMDs who rarely even talk to clients 😉

A colleague coming from industry being pursued asked me. Im not familiar with Accenture’s approach.
I'm not at Accenture, but I think it would be a terrible decision to bring in someone from industry at that level.
SMDs generally run giant businesses. CALs are running one or more clients. They don’t need personal sales credit. I don’t think most SMDs do either - they are measured on the performance of the business they run. Your job is to bring in giant transformational deals 10s of millions to multi billion
