Depends on what you want in terms of hours, days per week, etc. We hired a girl from Georgetown. She’s not a “pro”, but she’s fantastic. We hired her for 15 hours per week at $25 an hour (two kids under8). She’s helps with school pick up, homework, weekends, etc.
Going rate these days is 30ish an hour for full-time. Trends a little higher for part time if you want someone with experience.

Thanks D1. I’ll likely need a pro since my kid is still an infant. I don’t think we’ll need a full 40hrs, probably 25-30 a week.
If you have an extra bedroom/bathroom in your house, consider working with an au pair agency. Au pairs are generally less expensive since you provide room & board, and can be easier to work with around scheduling quirks of last-minute needs.
I have plenty of friends who have had au pairs. They’ve loved them and the girls have become true family over the years. And OP - it can be a little awkward at first, but everyone settles into a routine and rhythm pretty quickly, from what I’ve seen.
