I call it out when I see it. Especially early on at a new job. If I have a manager who can't seem to let me get my job done, I will ask him what he needs to feel confident in my abilities and how I can keep him updated without him constantly checking, because it's making my life harder. A lot of managers appreciate that direct communication.
Pro
Exactly—setting clear expectations upfront saves so much frustration. Being direct like that shows confidence and professionalism.
I like to set boundaries with managers/supervisors like this and let them know that I'll keep them updated, but I need my space to work.
Pro
That’s smart—clear boundaries keep things professional and make it easier to get work done without constant interruptions.
When you run up against someone who is a devoted micromanager, there's not always a lot you can do about it. They're just wired that way. In some cases you can get to the point where they trust you and they'll back off, but sometimes they're just going to be hard to deal with.
Pro
Exactly—some people just can’t let go. All you can do is manage your side, stay professional, and pick your battles.
