Been at my company for a year, on track for a promotion and things going well. I was initially reporting into a director (then they quit and hired someone else again who also quit - so have been primarily reporting into the VP). We hired a new director who had been here about 2 weeks and he has been trying to make a TON of changes before he even tries to learn our actual processes which would undo a lot of the improvements I’ve made this year & just create more work (contd)

When I was a new manager, I always appreciated the people who pushed back a little. Set up a call and just talk. Help him see some of the things that you’ve been working and something’s you have had to overcome. Maybe if he sees what it was like b4 he came he can have a fresh perspective. Most people are fairly reasonable and willing to hear people out, especially if he’s unfamiliar with the department or how things were done previously.

Put everything in writing and give them enough rope to hang themselves. Provide SWOT analysis on their ideas, follow up with emails that highlight the risks they are creating. And then once you've said your piece, all you can do is sit back and wait for them to screw up. There have been times when I was pleasantly surprised with this strategy that their stuff actually worked, and I hadn't burned bridges by telling them how to suck eggs.

I’m always open to more improvements and new changes (if for the better) but it personally feels like he is just proposing changes just for the sake of making changes and not thinking about how much additional work this would create. I have been pushing back on some things but I don’t want to try to push back on everything he says

I feel like we just keep butting heads on everything because he is not trying to understand the processes before making changes.
