Best legal books? Sure,"To Kill a Mockingbird" is a classic, but what other law-related books have captured your imagination?

I'm looking for recommendations that go beyond the typical legal thrillers and courtroom dramas. Have you read any insightful biographies of influential lawyers or judges? Any deep dives into fascinating legal cases or historical events? Perhaps a thought-provoking exploration of the philosophy of law?

I'm eager to expand my legal reading list beyond the usual suspects.

Best legal book? A book of business.

Servants of the damned

TKAM, as constituted in the yt male imagination is an awful text (& film). Harper Lee’s sequel, Go Set A Watchman, is, as she intended an honest rendering of the terrible Atticus Finch who so many yt male attorneys mistakenly, believe is honorable (Brett Kavanaugh said TKAM was his favorite text so that tells you something).

That said, I’d start with Without Sanctuary, A Soldiers Story, Ragtime, James Baldwin, A Report from Occupied Territory, legal documents concerning Biddy Mason, who escaped Mormon enslavement & human trafficking and became a millionaire in SoCal.

Barbarians at the Gate.

Purely mercenary question here: If I'm currently a 7yr working EPLI at an ID firm, and want to break $300k in the next few years, is there a route to get there?

Partnership at my firm won't come close. My transferrable book is probably less than $100k a year. BL is probably not interested in me given my law school tier and current firm. Am I dreaming?

I currently work at a medium sized firm and have about two years experience in personal injury litigation. The billable hours and lack of work life balance are really getting to me and I am looking to switch to something else out of litigation, preferably in house. I am also looking to relocate to a different state. How do I go about properly marketing myself to companies that might not take my relocation and minimal experience seriously?

Hello, in my previous organisation I worked in development domain (Oracle IAM Tool and Java)and my post was software Engineer, i joined Wipro as project Engineer in April 2022 and was assigned non technical project as an analyst.

I fought my way hard to get released from the project. However my designation is changed as Analyst. Should I ask for change in designation as I know that analyst is non-technical profile? Would my designation impact my future role as well?

Hi, working FT but looking to go freelance. I’ve set up an LLC and take projects sometimes. I have a diverse skillset in digital. what do you say are the most important skills in the market right now?

Perspective. I’m retiring from the service and I’ve positioned myself decently to be competitive. I have a graduate degree pursuing a doctorate, LSSBB, ScrumMaster, SPHR, and PMI-ACP. I’ve been offered two positions that are great and on the human capital team. For someone in this situation where should I be looking as commensurate with my certifications and experience?

I myself just completed PMA's Product Marketing Core Cert, but I can't do it all myself and run Demand Gen and Mar Ops. Also HM experience should I require?

I am looking into the CCP (Certified Compensation Professional). It seems to be quite an expensive exam.

If anyone else is studying, let me know and maybe we can share study materials!

For those who have taken it, are there any cheaper or alternative study materials to any official guides you would recommend? I went this route with the PHR and SHRM-SCP and passed each on the both try, so I wanted to see if that method may be viable here. Any recommended order to take courses in?

Does where you get your masters degree matter? I’m in an online environmental science masters program at an expensive “name-brand” school, but have colleagues telling me I should transfer to a less expensive program to save $ because no one cares about where your degree is from. Aside from the cost of it, I like my program, and the fact that I’m now connected to an incredible alumni network. And not gonna lie, I like the clout. Thoughts?

So I get that in a corporate set up, you are supposed to be sharp and witty and think on your feet. Trouble is, I am extremely slow with comebacks. (Think Ross in Friends/Amy in B99) at the crunch moment, I generally end up not being able to give a good roast back. Unfortunately the best of them come to me like a few hours later (dinner/shower/TV) and I am left ruing and amazing opportunity to have gotten one back. I am awful at jibes and roasts.

Anyone else suffer from this?
