Good luck! Sounds like some major events have taken place. Are you aware of the causes to all of the changes?
There is a lot of speculations, but I have not heard anything other than the typical rumor-mill. Our former principal retired, and one of the High School principals moved up to replace one of the top admin in the corporation. But that is the only thing I know.
I guess there are two ways to approach this…you can worry about it all summer and ruin your break, or you can see it as somebody recognized that a change needed to take place. Yes, with many new people some kinks will need to be worked out, but that’s their problem, not yours. Enjoy your summer and deal with the changes in a couple months when you return. The reality is that these changes will not affect how or what you teach. Your classroom will be the welcoming, informative place it’s always been. Lots of new people can’t change that! Relax, chill. You’ve earned it! ❤️❤️
Thank you for the reminder. I tend to be a worry-wart, and I overthink everything.
I am an Indiana teacher as well. I’m seeing this in a couple of school corporations in southern Indiana. It definitely seems to be worth questioning. Have you talked to any of your union officers to see if they might have an idea?
It's been similar here. Many of the changes don't make sense, and many teachers are feeling stressed. Some principals have been moved around after being at their school for years! I can't see how this is the best thing for the school or the district, but I suppose only time will tell!
I don't know how it is helpful to move people around within a district. A few years ago, they were shifting teachers around to other schools, and it caused a lot of stress.
This sounds like it’s time to play detective and dig around to find out what’s the driver behind all the big changes! 🔍🕵️♂️
Yes, I guess I haven't asked the right people. 😁 I do know we got a new superintendent last year, but don’t know if that is the root of everything or not.
First and foremost, don't panic. However, I would say be flexible. In the 8 years I taught, my school went through 4 principals. Last year we had a reduction in force and lost some teachers, and this year again, losing some teachers. Not to seem bitter and disgruntled as I'm the only teacher in my town that lost their job....... The other position that was supposed to be cut-well-the admin negotiated for them to go part-time and was successful. Guess it really does matter who you know......... Always remember to keep your head down, cover your butt, and never, and I do mean never, make waves. You'll be fine.
