4:45 wake up
5-6:30 workout, walk, catch up on email
6:30-7 shower
7-8:45 get kids up and ready, dropped at school, nanny arrives
8:45-9 throw breakfast together for me
9-4 some variation of wfh
4-7:30 kids activities, dinner, bedtime
7:30-8:30 check in on what I missed with work
8:30-9 walk to reset my brain
9-10:30 dinner and time w spouse
A6 if I may ask, if 8-9 is reduced at your firm what is the regular schedule?
Pro
5:30 Get up
6:00 Feed the pets, toddler typically wakes up
6:30 Feed kiddo and eat breakfast
7:00 Get kiddo dressed and play for a bit
7:30 Work out at home
8:00 Get ready for work
9:00-5:00 Work at the office. I don’t really take a lunch break so I can get out around 5.
5:30 Hang out with kiddo while husband cooks dinner
6:30 Eat dinner together
7:30 Start bedtime routine
8:30 Toddler is asleep, tv time for Mom & Dad. Typically asleep by 10-ish.
3am: Wake up with baby
5am: Wake up with toddler
7am: Wake up for client call
8am: Cry
This actually though - schedule changes so much based on age of children. Just gotta roll with it. And also cry.
Wake up at 6. Leave by 6:30. Nanny arrives at 7:15 (hubby then gets ready and leaves for work). I’m in office by 7ish. Leave at 4. 1 hour commute. Immediate start dinner. Hubby home by 6. Eat, bathe kids, do bedtime. Back online by 8/8:30. Pick out clothes for the next day, pack breakfast, tidy up. Bed by 10:30ish. It’s like fucking groundhogs day, but the little moments (family dance party after dinner, bike ride before bed) are wonderous. And it doesn’t stay this way forever.

Nasty how? The mom who said going to multiple events at her kid’s school would be a “shit week” because she prefers to hang out with adults just sucks. A mom who wants to be there but can’t could be a super amazing mom, but she should still recognize that it’s unacceptable that we live in a society that prevents her from being at events held at her child’s school.
Again, this isn’t a gender thing. My husband does as least as much as I do if not more. He’s our default parent. But, I still show up.
These are societal changes we need. Employers who have anti-family policies should be ashamed. They are the problem. But we need to advocate too. And definitely not normalize the status quo.
Not that the other schedules sound enjoyable per se, but I also think schedules like those would not fly in my office (non-NY biglaw) so this is all very subjective.
I don’t have kids but my past week has looked like:
7:30am alarm goes off, contemplate what I’m doing with my life
8:00am convince myself to get out of bed
8:30am feed and walk dog
9:15am work
2:30pm realize I haven’t eaten, heat up lean cuisine
2:45pm work
6:30pm feed and walk dog
7-9pm work
9pm find something I can reheat and eat while working
9:15pm-2am work
Sleep a few hours and repeat.
Granted, not an average week. But have weeks like this maybe once every six weeks or so.
More regular schedule (to the extent that’s a thing) might look like
7:30am get up, feed and walk dog, get ready for work
9:00 drive in to office
9:30am work
1pm quick lunch from office cafe
1:15pm work
7pm leave office
7:30pm feed and walk dog
8pm quick dinner
8:30pm work
10:30pm sign off, have some rest
12am go to bed

It’s probably not based on your current schedule. You will need to adjust your schedule materially after having kids.
Biglaw in NYC.
4-5am wake up to nurse baby
5-8am back to sleep
8-9:30am time with baby; get ready for work
(husband is on paternity leave with baby now, once that’s over I will use this block to drop off baby at daycare downstairs on my way to work)
9:30-5:30pm work, eat at my desk
(I have a 10 min commute or WFH)
5:30-7:30pm time with baby and husband, eat dinner together, bath and bedtime routine
7:30pm-12am work, maybe quick gym if there is time
There are lots of ways to make this work! Despite the mini-thread above 😬
Wake up at 4:30am. Drink coffee and work out. Kid #1 (almost 4) wakes up around 6, as does husband. We play with her while getting ready and prepping breakfast. Kid #2 (8 months) wakes up between 6:30-7:30am. I take him to daycare and walk dog; husband takes #1 to school. If I commute, I get to the office around 9:30. If I wfh, I’m at my desk by 8:30. I work until 6ish either way. We have a sitter handle my son’s pickup, and my husband gets my daughter. I check email until 9ish and will hop back on my computer any time before then if needed.
