Bain & Company Is there a cool down at Bain even if you don’t make it past the resume screen? Applied a couple months ago on a whim (and a referral from a friend) having no experience with anything business/consulting related as a lateral (only had experience in research prior). Since then have had 2 months at a t2 firm plus some biz dev for a startup. I’m aiming to reapply at 6 months. For context graduated from a t10 school and thought I wanted to go to med school for a little bit lol. Bain & Company
Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

Volunteer work doing something I cared about. Helped with perspective on what I want to be when I grow up.
Try reading Bill Burnett’s books Designing your life and Designing your work life. I always knew I was a bad fit for my job, but kept thinking it will get better as I get better at my job. It never did. Finally the prospect of doing this same type of work for another decade or two really got me depressed. I am now working on a new career path that is better suited to my strengths and interests.
I try to have gratitude about what we have even after losing 35% of my income with the stock drop however it’s challenging day to day especially if you have a toxic manager, no growth chances, lack of recognition and constant demand.

Went back to grad school.
+1 for the Design Your Life book rec, I loved it.
I also have felt lost on and off throughout my career. Sometimes a move/ pivot has helped. Interesting that you mention career coach - I think for me that has been one of the most impactful things. When I started with a career coaching it was mostly for help strategizing my next career move, but it ended up being a lot more than that. I still see my coach regularly even since starting a new job, and I believe I’m a lot better for it across many dimensions. I have some friends who have similar experiences and others who didn’t like it, so I think it really depends on the coach and mutual fit. Luckily there are some good platforms these days with solid coaches and affordable subscriptions.
Good luck!
Blossom.team is the one I’m using now and really happy with it. I’ve also tried Ezra which was okay and Bettrup (we had 3 months free) but the experience / credentials of their coaches coaches was underwhelming.
I feel the same way. I thought tech would be great. Wanted to get out of the grind - although I loved the work I used to do. I am surprised that I miss my consulting work.
It’s a great company…good culture. It’s not as fast paced and the people aren’t as high caliber as consulting. I think that’s something I miss.

Spend time volunteering with kids, animals, or any group that makes you feel energized afterwards.

I found meaning outside of work.

Spend time learning something you like. Also find something outside of work that makes you happy and preferably includes a community
I found a career coach incredibly helpful! I was basically in the same position as you when I first met her, then I had some crazy health things. At that point we did a big pivot to focus on how I would deal with telling those at work, being out for extended periods of time, etc. etc. etc Then we came back around to figuring out what I wanted next in my work life. Which is what they do...based on your specific situation and your wants/needs, you make a plan together and set out on the journey to get you there.
I read books all the time, but nothing beats another human getting in the trenches with you!
What are your feelings? Do you know what’s causing these feelings? Have you had any major life changes at work or personal life?
But why? You are in the tier 1 tech company. Others dream to have a job in meta. What is making you feel lost?
Understood, but there is no “happily ever after” even for others who are struggling in tier3/4 consulting as well. Plus there is no money or name associated with that too. Just have to look at the bright side and find our happiness.
Are you at FB now? Were you able to find some direction in switching to industry?
Thanks all for the replies. Some more context, recently switched to tech in S&O. Thought the work would be more impactful and career growth is not as clear. I think I’m putting too much emphasis on $ and career growth to determine my value

@fb2
Just switch over to us. Seems like people go Facebook to Google all the time
Feeling the same and found my way to this app…
You can read books about it, it can often solve internal problems with long-term changes.
Do an analysis of yourself and think about what drove you to it. Solutions will emerge automatically.
Maybe it will be good for you to deal with other things besides work. You can try to participate in different activities.
Exercise and go for walks, rest yourself and try to understand what the source of the problem is. You can direct your life by making logical decisions.
