Can we talk about how hard it is to find genuinely supportive women in finance? I’ve had some incredible allies, but I’ve also encountered women who seem more interested in gatekeeping than lifting others up. Is it internalized pressure, scarcity mindset, or just bad leadership? Either way, I wish we talked about this more.

I think in the typical corporate culture, it’s really hard to find one who’s purely interested in supporting you, unless you can also support their “ways of working/thinking”.
I am definitely not saying this because “I am right you are wrong”. I wouldn’t set my expectations that way though.

Honestly, I think this is related to the economy. I think that when people feel financially insecure, they tend to see others as adversaries instead of allies. I haven't noticed it to be a specifically gendered thing, but it could be. I tend to try to stay as neutral as possible and avoid getting involved in any interpersonal drama as much as I can.

I’ve always had female assistants and it amazes me how difficult it is for women to compliment another woman. I’m quick to say “your haircut looks cute” or you look nice in pink”. Sometimes I think i could walk into the office in a red sequined gown and get no reaction. I’m being completely honest. It’s strange to be honest.

I hate to say it, but I feel like the "Pick Me" mentality can pretty easily spill over into the workplace. I just don't understand why women prefer to put each other down over picking each other up. I think you're right in that it's due in large part to scarcity mindset, especially in male-driven fields.

Switching from commission to salary!

I’m considering a less sales-oriented role that doesn’t pay commission. The new role will have a higher base but lower overall earning potential.

What % haircut should be expected? As an example, if I make 100k (base + commission) today, would it be realistic to ask for 90k (10% cut) + equity to make up the difference?
