Can you apply for unemployment if you were with an agency for two months? I’m in NY.

if you’re unemployed or under-employed, (working very little, barely covering your bills), I believe you can file for UI. But I don’t know for sure & you should read the NYSDOL claim handbook.

Were you somewhere before the agency? You usually need to have been working x out of the past x weeks to qualify

like

It’s only if you’ve worked a set amount of hours at your previous jobs. If you only worked two months, they’d deny it bc it’s not enough hours, but if you had work before that last job that covered the hours needed, then, yes

Were you paid w2?

If paid under W2 then yes

NYC has pretty welcoming unemployment laws. It’s not about working in one place for a long time anymore, more about how much you’ve worked in the past few months, specifically how much you’ve made and paid into unemployment. This is how actors can qualify, even if they’ve not been paid a steady paycheck.

Received an offer from the DOJ for a 2 year contract, doing work which seems more interesting/engaging than what I’m doing right now (insurance defence) - but for just over 9% less than I’m currently making, and the partner track has been outlined for me at my firm..feel like it’s not worth trading higher long term earning potential for contract + pay cut just because the work is more engaging..but on the other hand, ID is starting to bore me..thoughts/refs to anyone at DOJ would be appreciated
