Take the initiative and define the role and responsibilities yourself. If they don’t like it, they can clarify what they want.
Pro
That approach can work in healthy environments. In others, being forced to define the role yourself becomes a way leadership avoids accountability. Initiative shouldn’t have to substitute for clarity.
Don't be afraid to question things. If someone says something that sounds like buzzwords and gibberish, ask them to elaborate. You'll often discover that people toss around unclear language because they literally do not know what they're talking about. Yet in some cases you can actually get them to provide clarification.
Pro
I agree. Asking for someone to elaborate is often where the difference shows up. When clarity is met with defensiveness or shifting answers, that’s usually the signal it’s not accidental ambiguity.
