Any advice for someone looking to transition into a full HR Generalist role from Recruiting. I’m currently a Campus Recruiter with about 5 years of HR experience (Coordinator- Higher Ed). I received my PHR certification in September 2020 and sitting for my SHRM-CP in two weeks. I’m having a hard time transitioning into a full Generalist position.

Would you be able to shadow a generalist at your company? I have a recruiter who also wants to transition to generalist and when she shared that with me I made it a point to include her in some of my projects. Just so she can get some experience and her feet wet. It seems to have worked as management is creating a role for her outside of recruitment now because she did such a phenomenal job.

Wow that a great advice am also looking out for a generalist role .

I would look for a generalist role at a company where the generalist also does recruiting. That can help get you on the generalist path by leveraging a skill you already have.

Need help evaluating an offer from a late stage unicorn startup that plans to IPO within the year. Base 150k, RSUs currently valued at ~130k total from latest 409a over a 4 year vesting period (25% each year) with board approval, 10% yearly bonus. They said they could add a signing bonus but would be tough to increase base. I’m currently waiting on 2 other offers this week to compare. What should I ask for signing bonus and should I negotiate RSUs?

I work in Fintech Startup and we are recently re-evaluating our comp structures.

My Boss and I were going back-and-forth regarding the structure for our engineering and developer team.

Do most Dev teams have a bonus structure in addition to their base? If so, what metrics is this bonus based off of?
Or do the Engineers just get a higher annual raise than other depts?

All insight greatly appreciated!!

Hi everyone. Just looking for some advice.

I recently lost my job and my former employer notified me over a call, and the reason was that they’re just too busy to train me. I then applied for EI / unemployment but got told I wouldn’t be getting any money, because my employer said they had to let me go due to shortage of work. I know that’s not true because they hired 2 new people the following week.

What would be the appropriate steps to take in this situation? Thank you for any advice!

I’m taking the SPHR in less than 2 months and haven’t started studying for it. How difficult is it? I’ve been in HR for 20 years and have experienced ALOT in that time, although there are always employee relations scenarios that surprise me! How much do I really need to study for this? I just can’t seem to motivate myself to do it, I’m so mentally burnt out at the end of the day from a high stress HR job, the last thing I feel like doing is studying HR!

Hi everyone! Just looking for some insight. I’m about 4 years into HR, have my bachelors. Anybody who has felt maxed out in recruitment? What do you do? Do you try other industries first but stay in recruitment or do you try to change positions with more diversity of tasks? I now feel that everything I do is the same old, and although they say I am doing a good job, it is also a constant stress daily for applicants not showing up, failing pre-employment requirements, etc and I wonder if this is also present in other areas of HR.

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.
