What I found about going from an org admin to a consultant is that we (myself included) most often lacked long-term strategic goals and vision. Admins want quick wins to accomplish the goals in that moment, but it leads to technical debt.
That’s why I advocate for Admins to go for the BA/strategy designer certs to have fundamental understandings of how to roadmap changes, rather than go after them piecemeal with no real plan in place.
Yepppp
Ah, the market finally regulates itself. Please, no more entitled, 6 figure, clicks-not-code admins who don't understand data modeling implementing a bunch of hacky solutions that I then have to unravel.

400 of those fields are formula fields from other objects so they can run reports
I feel like I am working on garbage dumpster project. Client does not willing to clean up any field, apex class, trigger, nothing! Even unused object. Multiple fields and object with exact same names… Any suggestions for clean up they take it as more cost. So they just want to build more features on top of the garage..

Literally about to start a cpq project where this is the scenario. Look forward to seeing how we solve it.
CPQ expert here! I see this BS all of the time. My personal favorite from this past year - CIO let his buddies in India build CPQ for the business... they ended up writing triggers for things CPQ does out of the box, such as contract creation, syncing quote lines to the opportunity, renewals, etc. When I asked why they did this, I was told that the implementation team simply did not know these features existed.
Your CRM admins and devs CANNOT implement CPQ by themselves. Please get the help of an expert, so I can spend more time building things to help clients instead of figuring out why your system is so screwed up.
Wow I thought you are working in the same project with me. But in our team we don’t have CPQ experts.. I just joined project and they built with 80% customized and not utilizing CPQ .. Even product rule, very simple approval process is custom code.. Client is not willing to have CPQ experts or any architecture. Ans it appears they’ve been changing vender frequently.
Our CPQs are problematic for other reasons but a mess nonetheless. Our case object gives me a headache just thinking about it.
I will say that being a consulting firm that specializes in cleaning up messes is a lucrative business 😂
Unfortunately I’m really happy where I am!
It sounds like some kind of position should be created that bridges the gap between the business goals and the technical implementation, and ultimately be able to influence design.
I mean, crazy talk right?
(Also please just go make sure no user has modify all, shit orgs make shit choices)
