I don't personally relate BUT my best friend has PMDD and her gyno prescribed her Zoloft that she takes the week before her period. She used to have the mental hurdles you described along with irritability, and the Zoloft has majorly improved her quality of life both personally and professionally. Everyone's different but that works for her! I'm sorry you're dealing with this and that really sucks it affects both your body and brain💔💔💔I'm empathizing with you! For reference we are 30 and she lived with it for a few years before getting the diagnosis/meds.
I also have pmdd and adhd. I up my dosage the week before my period because my adhd symptoms get worse and i cant get anything done. My psychiatrist has said this makes sense and agreed with that. My gyno said zoloft is the 1st medication to treat pmdd but I can't take SSRIs so I'm on birth control. It has helped immensely.
I started taking birth control (Loryna) nonstop (no sugar pills, new pack) & it's helped immensely. Not sure if you're into that or not, but I was really losing my mind there for a bit.
I’ve tried a couple birth controls, but limited on what I can take because of migraines. Just got off of Slynd a few months ago, which took away my period completely, but made me gain weight & grow chin hair & after a few months in, I was having anxiety regularly. So currently taking a break from bc, but will look into Loryna to see if it’s an option. Thanks
My doctor gave me this regimen to try for PMDD symptoms
I take magnesium nightly for migraines and i find it super helps. No issues with grogginess for me.
See your doctor and see if they have any solutions. For most women, it's unlikely to be 1 full week every month, maybe one or two really awful days, and some of those will be weekends. Otherwise, if the doctor cannot offer a solution, I think it's just suck it up and soldier on. Almost certain you won't get reduced hours or increased resourcing. I've had similar issues for decades.
I would do a reduced schedule for reduced pay, and have talked to my coach about it, but he mentioned it would probably affect me in performance reviews if I didn’t end up putting in tons of extra hours on my on weeks due to being a 2nd year senior & getting put on critical clients. In that scenario, I would need resources to cover my engagements while out. I have so many jobs where I feel bad taking a sick day because I’m the only one doing anything on them.
I have some accommodations (eg flex my hours across the week if I need to) but the best thing has been addressing the cause - I’ve started with estrogen patches and so far so good!! (I already have a mirena and am on both SSRIs and SNRIs so this is one of my last options).
