Do you ever get the sense that some job descriptions are vague on purpose so they can shift the responsibilities later? I applied for an analyst role recently, only to find out in interviews that it included managing junior staff, owning revenue forecasts, and doing client reporting solo. None of that was in the listing. I’m fine stretching a bit, but this felt like bait-and-switch territory. Where do you draw the line between being flexible and being misled?

Isn't that unavoidable to a certain degree? No job description is ever going to fully capture everything that happens from day to day. That's just the way it is. This is admittedly a bit on the more extreme end of the spectrum, though. I'd have my misgivings but probably see the process through to the end. Maybe those extra responsibilities will translate into a better offer than you were expecting.

They are usually vague because they don’t know what they are asking for yet. As long as they tell me before we get to the negotiation stage, I am fine.

So long as the pay warrants the supervisory duties, roll with it. Unless you have no desire to manage people, this sounds like a great opportunity for growth.

I landed in my supervisor role because my manager was layed off. I was already with the company but stepped up as interim manager. It entailed me basically doing double duty as I had to keep all of my own accounts and its been rough. I received no official change in title and no bump in salary but I gained valuable experience. Two years later still no indication of true advancement, I am moving on for an incredible opportunity at a company with a much larger role and huge salary increase. I leveraged myself for the manager role knowing it would bring bigger future opportunities.

Hello all! I am looking for a job in finance/investments, but I’m having trouble attracting attention from employers. I have a finance degree from UGA, but all of my experience (3.5 years) is in sales (tech and real estate), so no relevant internships unfortunately. Any advice on how to market myself better and where I should be looking would be greatly appreciated!

On top of that I have 5 years experience and a masters in finance. I’m good at my job and receive positive reviews from everyone. I feel like I should be compensated better but the company says that’s what they think I’m worth. Any help or insights would be great!

Has anyone recently done a HR interview at UBS?
I’ve completed the first interview with the hiring manager and a colleague, and have been fortunate to get to the next stage but im unsure how to prepare. I’ve done the usual compentencies, strengths and weaknesses and company research. But I don’t want to fail at the last hurdle as I really like this company and it would be a dream to work there any support or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

I applied to a job at KPMG and did the first two rounds of interviews, general interview, then case study and competency. Never before have I had such a positive feedback at the end of an interview of the 2nd, both said really like me, I did well etc.
It's now been 3 weeks since the interview and I still haven't heard back from the team other than the odd HR email saying they are following up with them. Is there something going on internally, I.e hiring freeze in the London office atm?

Is IB worth the sacrifice of WLB? Obvious pay is really good but are the prestige and pay worth it if you’re planning on only doing it for a couple years?

Currently working at an IRA with great WLB. Honestly I love my job, the firm, and people I work with.

Also doing MBA part time at a T15 school. Thinking about switching to IB but I’ve done my research and I think I would burn out of IB in two years but I might be ok with that for the opportunities after.
