Do you genuinely enjoy working in finance, or do you just like the paycheck, the title, and the sense that you’ve already invested too much time to walk away now? At what point does staying because it’s ‘practical’ turn into staying because you’re scared to start over and how do you even tell the difference? I’m doing it for the paycheck but would like to branch away once I make enough passive income

I don’t dislike it, but yes I’m mostly in it for the money and because I have invested time into it. I took a non-traditional path and it took me a while to get where I am now. There’s nothing else that I really wish I was doing instead, my passions are away from the workplace and I’m happy to have my current job which allows me to fund them.

There are things about the work I find interesting, so it's not horrible. Having said that, there are other things I would find much more interesting, but I didn't think I could make a decent living at them. To be honest, I kind of stumbled into the career and it paid well so I guess I just went along with it. If it hadn't paid well I might have found something more interesting, or perhaps more useful to society, to do.

That statement fits me as well ... fell into into mtg lending about 20 years ago and although its never been a dream job - it has provided a good income so no big complaints. But lately I have been thinking about what would I truly love doing ... forget the salary. If you love doing something, I think the money has to follow eventually.

I'm very grateful for the position I'm in financially. My job is stressful, but it's not demanding or physically taxing or even really that emotionally exhausting. There are a lot worse jobs out there and I think about that all the time. But I'm definitely not passionate about it.

I don’t find my work that fulfilling, but I do find it stable, well-paying, and I’m not overworked. I’ve been trying to focus more on the positives and saving so I can retire early

Good questions.
The paycheck is so good, and the skills not easily transferable to the same level.
At this point I will stay until I have plenty of money then may never work again.

I'm a back office monkey so the paycheck was never great to begin with. Not about to start over in another field now that I have more than 20 YoE. I'm just hoping to stick around until I can retire.

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.
