I do not personally feel conflicted. I feel very lucky to be able to contribute to work in this space.
Not really, I'm mostly in early stage oncology so making cancer patients live longer feels pretty worthwhile

No, I also view it in a way if I don’t work in this industry than someone else will. Yes pricing for these drugs may be overpriced but think about how many hours & money go into R&D. Then moving that to large scale manufacturing which is a lot of money for raw materials. I do believe the drugs being manufactured are making a difference in patients for the better. Unless your making opioids like someone else mentioned haha.
In the rare disease space.. few drug developers would attempt to tackle the indications we are targeting. Affordability of the drugs if they ever make it to market is a different story, however.
Not if you maintain your integrity. Sometimes it helps to take a step back and remind yourself what the black and white of things are.
If you worked at Purdue or other opioid maybe. I did feel a bit guilty working as a consultant in pricing - really upsetting how the US payers really don't do enough to control the cost. Now that I'm in BD at a biotech I do wonder if my work is truly meaningful outside of having a big $$ attached to deals and maybe making some drugs more accessible. But not quite guilty
I do. Sometimes I see things that make me goes “should I really do this”? or “I know this isn’t right to any human beings”. But I sometimes you can’t do anything currently since it seem like most companies are the same in work ethic.
I’ve really thought about this. I worked as a clinical trial coordinator for 5 years and have applied to CROs as well as directly w pharma companies. I haven’t ever been able to get anywhere with it. I just figured it’s not meant for me to get back into pharma research and have thought about if I would feel guilty working for someone like Pfizer.
