Guys, a query from me - got an offer from a reputed renewable industry company so wanted to know if I'll be going downhill or uphill in my career. Note: Position is in Europe, naturally way better money than India, and its an ex client wanting me to join them. He is keen to get me in.

I'm always supposed to be reachable, though it usually seems superfluous. I think it has become almost a status symbol that people want to show they're always needed at their job. I'm usually within reach (unless I hike out of cell coverage or something), just in case there's some emergency. And I'm fine if I don't hear from anyone, my personality doesn't need that level of being plugged in every minute.
I am available for a huge chunk of the day, but do have off hours where I just have to be unavailable. If there is something already going on, then I can be reached, but if it is something out of the blue, not really necessary, I try to just leave that. It can be a very slippery slope!

I got negative feedback in my written mid year review for "not being reachable during my pto". Direct quote. A client emailed me Saturday night and I didn't respond until Sunday night. Once.
Brutal.
I make myself available for sure. It’s a cutthroat business. Also, this is US, not Europe lol
I'm like 90% sure there are people from the UK in here, but I get your point.
I'll be honest I am really bad about unplugging. I realize that I deserve my time off too and nothing is really THAT big of an emergency, but I still struggle with being completely unavailable. Its something I am really trying to be better about it because my husband hates when we are on vacation and I am doing work related stuff.
