Are you the same person who "finds themself answering emails on the weekends" and refused to answer the multiple questions of whether you were told to or just decided to?
If so, it seems like your issues are a you issue. "I can't help but feel like" is a you problem. Is anyone accusing you of not working your full hours? And, again, has anyone instructed you to answer emails on weekends?

Depends on who you need and who needs you.
My team is global so I’m more of a, “just get your stuff done.” manager.
I start at 530 or 6 and am done by 4 most days. If something comes up, I just say I’ll get it to you before open of business tomorrow and send it at like 7 am
This really depends on your rank.

The answer depends entirely on one's impact to the business, time zones involved, and most importantly, manager buy in. There will be certain functions in a business that are most productive for the business in the 8-5 time frame, typically customer facing or customer support type roles. Other roles may not be as dependent on customer interaction, and have plenty of productive responsibilities that can be worked on outside business hours.
In general, if you are "working" and sitting there waiting on work to come in on a regular basis (staying busy with non-productive tasks doesn't count), you'll want to adjust your work hours to closer slign to the typical work day.
It seems like something to discuss with your manager, and also block off the time in your calendar so you show as unavailable if people are trying to reach you then. It also might not hurt to work mentions of it into conversation occasionally as a reminder to folks who you think might have that perception... "thanks for sending this, I've got meetings this afternoon, but I'll dig into it early tomorrow morning while it's quiet before the rest of the team comes online"
I always came in early and left at 3:58…unless there was a last minute crisis (is there any other kind?)
