It’s not so much the curriculum as it is their work ethic. As an 8th grade teacher, we struggle with building their stamina, rigor and the other elements necessary to assist in their transition to high school.
Not the curriculum but the teacher. 8th grade teachers have to know and understand what is expected of freshman/beyond in a literacy classroom and begin transitioning their students to that. I pull off the kid gloves in nov/dec as we cruise into winter break and go full throttle jan-April. It pisses some kids off, but man do we see tremendous growth and production out of the students.
I would say no... I hear a lot from parents of former students that they struggle with transitioning and keeping up with the work when it comes to high school
