I am seeing stellar returns and extremely low expense ratios but apparently since they're quantitatively managed algorithms, they don't account for things like corona for example.

Well... I mean your job title is limiting you a little...
Copywriters and content writers are very different. From your title you seem like you’re on the content side.
It sounds like you are on the content side of things then. I’d say you could land somewhere between 55-65.
Same boat, though not as long. And it feels like now is the time to just be “happy” to have a job given the economy
In that regard I’m def happy because I survived layoffs, but at the same time...a lot of people on here say I should be expecting 70-80k so it’s kinda of a big oof
Started at 55k in 2014. You gotta get out
Seriously—you’re getting screwed. Dust off that resume & start looking. Things will loosen up eventually.
Uhhh did you mean you live in ND lol?
This is insane. I started at 40k in Utah with no experience (different positions, but still)
Wow and I though *I* was underpaid. (50K, CA)
Do you mean you’re making $40K between now and December?
40k annual
You’re being underpaid. I work in the media side of advertising and have been making more than that the entire 2.75 years I’ve been in the industry (agency side until last month, work in nyc)
Starting salaries for juniors and Chicago is $50,000 how can it be 40 in New York City?
You’ve been with the company for 2.6 years and didn’t see a raise?
You’re definitely underpaid. I’m familiar with companies offering low starting salaries because you come in knowing little to nothing so it’s a risk for the company. However around the 1 year anniversary, there is a raise for those they wish to retain. You have a long way to go to ACD, so what does that mean? Continue making 40k for years potentially? Honestly I’m not sure how you make ends meet in nyc. Start looking. I know opportunities are limited so it might take a while, but you need to get out. That company is not taking care of you.
The copywriter salary you’re referencing sounds like an advertising copywriter. Based on your responsibilities, it sounds like you’re more of a content writer (even if your title within the company is copywriter).
If you want to make more, you should try to start framing up your social media work like campaigns. Create series with big ideas behind them. Write copy that is TRULY good and not just social media blather. Frame them up right in your book and you should be able to jump to more of an advertising copywriter position.
One thing I’d say is that this industry has layers. A copywriter here is not a copywriter there. Ad agencies are so many different things, it’s almost a useless title. Just focus on the work and a lot of those semantical things will fade away.
You would make more if they laid you off.
This is a very valid point. I don’t know the data on how long you can receive the extra federal unemployment on top of the state unemployment, but it might be in your interests to prioritize job hunting over your work. I don’t mean don’t do any work, but don’t go above and beyond - use all possible time on networking, updating your resume and portfolio, researching other companies, prepping for interviews, etc. There is no future for you at this place. To have you work there close to 3 years at a salary that might not cover basic necessities and have some crazy policy that only certain positions are eligible for raises (I never heard of this one before) is disgusting. I’m honestly very angry about this. I’ve been underpaid before so that’s why I’m having such a strong reaction to this. Good luck!!
That's so low. From when my friends and I were job hunting at entry level it was 45k at least. It jumped up to 75 if you were in tech/health.
I started at 40k as a copywriter in 2005!!! You should be getting more. Change jobs ASAP. My second job was $65k and then a raise to $80k by 2008!
