15 years doing this. No time in the history has been better than right now to be in this field of work, be recognized, and accepted.
Pick your battles and invest your time in those who are willing to listen. Slowly, but surely, you’ll have critical mass and the naysayers will be only a small set of people automatically becoming irrelevant.
Also upon us to continue evolving our arguments and improve articulation to reach and be understood by all sorts of stakeholders.
Agree with P2. The struggle is real. Sorry if my comment sounded as if I’m discounting your experience.
We are in a job that gets recognized only if we fail (i.e. climate risks starts manifesting). Us being successful makes things feel like business as usual (avoided catastrophic events). This makes it feel like this is a thankless job and recognition is barely commensurate to what we deliver. Thus frustration then multiplies when an uninformed or selectively ignorant individual comes up denying science to its core.
On bad days, fight just to survive one day. On good days, win enough ground to thrive a week.
But also- we hear you and acknowledge your effort and the difficulty involved. This is a calling- and it is not easy.
