Does anyone else feel exhausted? It’s so tiring always trying to defend ESG and sustainability. It’s so often the people that know the least about it who are the most vocally negative. I’m so tired.

15 years doing this. No time in the history has been better than right now to be in this field of work, be recognized, and accepted.

Pick your battles and invest your time in those who are willing to listen. Slowly, but surely, you’ll have critical mass and the naysayers will be only a small set of people automatically becoming irrelevant.

Also upon us to continue evolving our arguments and improve articulation to reach and be understood by all sorts of stakeholders.

Agree with P2. The struggle is real. Sorry if my comment sounded as if I’m discounting your experience.

We are in a job that gets recognized only if we fail (i.e. climate risks starts manifesting). Us being successful makes things feel like business as usual (avoided catastrophic events). This makes it feel like this is a thankless job and recognition is barely commensurate to what we deliver. Thus frustration then multiplies when an uninformed or selectively ignorant individual comes up denying science to its core.

On bad days, fight just to survive one day. On good days, win enough ground to thrive a week.

But also- we hear you and acknowledge your effort and the difficulty involved. This is a calling- and it is not easy.

My VP keeps asking for next year’s roadmap but every week wants it formatted differently and it’s driving me crazy. They don’t seem to know what they want and I have so much else to do than tweak the layout and colors and notations a few times each week. When I’ve asked what format and level of info the CTO prefers, my VP says they don’t know and I need to be okay with ambiguity. I’m losing any patience and good will I had.

I am currently a year from finishing my PhD and was looking at VC's as a career path because I like to do meta-analysis of different climate change techs. I networked with VCs and one of them was receptive but didn't have the budget currently for a full time hire. They said they'd be interested in working with me to do a research paper over the coming semester, and was wondering if I could leverage this into a full time offer?

Is a white paper with a VC going to be attractive on my CV?

I'm an ESG analyst at a private equity firm, technically investment team but looking to pivot to a role with more direct impact, whether that's consulting or banking to gain experience to take on an investment role. Any tips, thoughts, or willingness to chat is very welcome!!
