You are at work, not there to play on your cell phone.
You're at work to do your job. If an emergency arises, people would know how to reach you by other means that you gave them when how started work there.
Mean while the managers get there phones I’m sure! Some big shot might call you or something
I feel like if my boss was to try and take my phone off of me then I’d quit there and then. My phone is my personal property not theirs. I’m not in school. If someone is on their phone a lot then pull them into a disciplinary meeting and deal with it that way. But as a whole while I agree with being at work you shouldn’t be on your phone. On the other side to that, I’m not going to tell my entire family my work schedule on the off chance that they need to get hold of me at work. So I keep mine on me mostly for emergencies.
I work in a kitchen and you can’t have your cell phones which is fine with me if there’s an emergency my kids know how to get a hold of me. Your at work to work not be on the phone. Some managers don’t want to deal with it. This day and age everyone wants to be on the phone 24/7. They don’t understand if you’re doing certain things you can absolutely not have your phones. If you deal with patients, customers and have to take their personal information, etc. I use to work at Amazon and they would have you leave your phones in the lockers.

Very much an elementary rule. Treating people like children is not good. Have rules about cell phone usage and issue discipline if someone doesn’t follow the rules. It’s very important for people to have their phones on their person, especially for people who don’t have immediate family who live far away. If there’s an emergency back home, even if I’m not able to act immediately, I’d like to know immediately
Common place in most work places and for good reaaon you there to work not talk on your phone

That does feel extreme. I get not wanting people on their phones during work, but having to hand them over or lock them up makes it feel way more controlling than necessary. I’ve seen strict policies before, but that kind of setup really does give high school energy.
You are there to work not talk on your phone.
I don't have time at work to be on my phone any how i got to much work to do
It's either your job or your phone the times are to difficult to not follow companies rules.
So I managed a team at a very large print factory. Cell phones were not allowed on the floor unless you were a manager and you had your be on a list to be authorized to have your phone out. Their mentality was, there’s a lot of danger and potential for injury, and you need to concentrate on doing your job and doing it safely, cell phones equal distractions, and distractions cause accidents.
I can see why phone rules become that strict. There is a difference between quick checks for important calls and constant chats with friends on Facebook while at work. Some people don't understand that they came to work and act really unprofessional. But companies should understand exemption if a person has elderly parents or kids at school. School might contact a working parent if there is an emergency for example. it's hard to balance things here.
a lot of company in the reatil side want you to leave the phone in the locker or car when at work. It could be an age thing or just the boss want you to work faster.
Finding the right job today is hard. I am 62 and back to job hunting.
But you don’t know your phone while working . Plus it’s a distraction from your main focus . Also you can always have access to your phone on your break.
The cellphone thing is like in and out! Those people working at in and out, one can’t ever be on there phone or seen with it even in an emergency, two have to wear the dumbest white uniforms, and three don’t get paid that well for the none stop work! 8 level training platforms! Good luck!!
