Welcome to our pre-k inclusive classroom. Even with 8 students, and only face to face for 4 hours, we struggle. We struggle being heard through our masks. We struggle with social distancing. We struggle as we find ourselves constantly reminding students to keep their masks on. We struggle to keep them engaged and to teach. One thing we do not struggle with- building connections and showing out love for each child.

Organization is critical for classroom management. Try assembling units into Google Slides with links to ppts, activities, etc. Color code them according to the rainbow: Unit 1 red, Unit 2 orange etc. It takes a minute at first but the payoff is a one click upload for next year! PS I use the same color code system with felt tip pens to grade my classes: 1st hr red, 2nd hr orange etc.

I'm transitioning from teaching 8th grade mathematics at a public school to teaching a 7/8 self-contained classroom at a charter school.
Any advice for teaching mixed grade levels or multi subject is appreciated: scheduling, classroom setup, subject order, behavior management, etc. I'm struggling to find my rhythm with only 6 weeks before kids return.

Always a student. This helps me relate to my own. Mistakes. Confusion. Oopsies like giving the wrong answer when we KNOW it. Learning keeps me off any high horse because sure as the world I’d otherwise get knocked down. We are all students in our classrooms. An indirect bonus is that the connection we make by remembering what it’s like to be a student helps us manage the class better. We relate. We admit. We connect.

Does anyone use Fundations in 1st grade? We are piloting it in our district as a tier 1 for all kids as our daily phonics program. Trying to figure out how to set up classroom w/ all individual tools?

I’m student teaching and I’m completely stressed out. I’ve been in an elementary classroom as a TA, but this is way different.

I am trying to build my quiet area in my classroom. I am having a hard time finding things that I feel are appropriate for this area during this pandemic. Does anyone have any suggestions? Please and thanks!!! :)

Any idea how long will it take to get this done along with the offer letter as today 22 nd July is my last working day in current company. Hi all! Need a quick help! I have a 2 year work ex at ZS Associates (pharma consulting) and planning to switch to a Data Science career. I have received offer from Walmart Global Tech and BCG Gamma and not sure which one to consider. Which one would be more appropriate to kick off a career in Data Science ? I’m in IT in a large corp and I don’t know what to do. I’m the systems engineer and I planned around what I thought was a straight forward concept. It appears what I thought would be possible was wrong. Everyone celebrated thinking I’d figured it out, including me. Were spinning up a full team to build it and I’ve exhausted all avenues to find an alternative solution. There isn’t. Horrified this is a career limiting situation….

If you’re in a position of leadership, how are you addressing or acknowledging hate crimes with your team(s)?

My organization absorbed another and the former deputy PM became a branch head - a demotion. For org was more focused on tech dev and not delivering a product on a sked. New org is very focused on that. He is not a driving leader, but is the only one with the tech knowledge needed. He is retirement eligible. He has no heir apparent - previous org didn’t plan that way. If I move him under someone who is a driver - he retires and I lose the knowledge. If I don’t, we may not meet schedules. Advice?

Our annual reviews are approaching & one of my direct reports has been with us for almost six years w/ little growth. My reco was to let him go & find a stronger, hungrier & more motivated designer at the same level. However, my boss instead wants us to promote him in hopes that will spark some motivation. I am not behind this decision & have voiced my multitude of concerns in promoting an employee who doesn't deserve it. HR is behind the decision! Thoughts on promoting an undeserving report?

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time

I have been in management for the past 8 years and part of large corporations. I just recently joined a small organization that I have wanted to be a part of for the past 2 years, accepted the role of general manager. This organization knew that I don’t have general manager experience, no payroll experience, no experience setting prices, no purchasing experience and today, 6 days after starting, I have been asked to step down due to not being confident that I will be ready in 3 weeks…

Would you feel comfortable telling HR that your service line’s culture sucks and name the individuals who cause it? My remit quadrupled+ in a recent re-org with no increase in pay/promotion, my new director is new to the company and was zero help, and I was passed over for recent promotion during the comp cycle. The new director essentially began shutting me down any time I ask for clarity in my career progression. Now they have taken credit for the project I’ve been building over the past year+ without giving me props whatsoever to higher ups. What is the best plan of action here?

Interviewer feedback denying me the role was that because I did not say "People trust me and came to me about process issues. Which led me to collaborate with others that I have networked with in the past to find solutions." I did not get the job.
