Congratulations! I’m not sure about how part time would work, but I’d love to hear about how your conversation with your boss goes.
I don't, but that's really exciting - congratulations on your success! I'm not sure the right way to approach this conversation. Honestly is normally the best policy, but this might be an exception. I'd at least consider saying that you needed to make the change for personal reasons and try to avoid elaborating. My fear would be that if you tell your boss your business is growing and you want more time to focus on it, they'll realize you're going to leave as soon as it's big enough to be a full time job and let you go immediately rather than wait around for that to happen.
I might lean towards personal or family reasons instead of saying it’s your side business. The part-time switch will help you to better balance the workload and personal commitments, while maintaining the ability to perform at a high level. Basically, make it sound like a good thing for everyone.
Congratulations for having so much success with your business! I'm not part time, but if I was in your position, I would probably do the same thing. I would suggest being vague about your reasons, however. You don't want them to find a reason to let you go because they think they can't trust your loyalty.
I wish part time was an option for me. Being pregnant with baby #2 I definitely think about how it’ll be to go back to full-time knowing that we have less family support (due to moving) than we did the first time around.
